How to reset activation on Windows Vista

The following activation timer reset process can be run a maximum of three (3) times. Each time it is run, the number of available resets is decremented. Most windows vista machines typically allow two (2) resets as most machines are built with an image that utilizes “sysprep/generalize” to create distribution media.

Resetting activation

1.       Launch a command window with elevated privileges (right-click, run as administrator).

2.       Reset the activation timer by running the script: cscript %windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs -rearm

Run the command prompt in administrator mode by using the browser to navigate to your windows \system32 directory, and then right-click the CMD.exe file and select “run as administrator”
